September 2019 - Building on the experience with mechanisms under the Kyoto Protocol, a new briefing note re-examines an earlier assessment – completed prior to the 24th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP24) in December 2018 – on the different types of host country approvals necessary for a transaction under Article 6.2 and Article 6.4 Paris Agreement (PA). It discusses the differing scopes of authorizations and contextualizes the Article 6 PA instruments with respect to their position under the nationally determined contributions (NDCs) of the host country and the investor country.
