With the adoption of the Paris Agreement and the market mechanisms contained in its Article 6, the international community faces a new set of challenges calling for the development of application-oriented solutions. Against this backdrop, the Federal Ministry For Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) commissioned the Wuppertal Institute to provide support through scientific advice and public relations work related to cooperative climate action.
Within the framework of the project, the researchers prepare policy papers, statements and reports on the UNFCCC negotiations and bodies on behalf of BMWK. In addition, the project team organises expert workshops to bring selected topics to the expert community and thus contributes to agenda setting.
The Wuppertal Institute also supports BMWK in disseminating information and networking with the expert community. This includes the publication of Carbon Mechanisms Review (CMR), a specialist magazine focusing on cooperative climate protection. Edited by the project team, the website carbon-mechanisms.de provides introductory information, presents BMWK’s various activities and provides information on current developments in the field of carbon markets. The public relations work is rounded off by flyers, brochures, and articles in social networks.
With the preparation of policy papers, publication of the specialist magazine Carbon Mechanisms Review (CMR) and holding of expert workshops, the project supports the international negotiation process and promotes debate on selected topics. The relaunch of carbon-mechanisms.de in July 2020 improved the website’s structure and added new functions. For example, central information on the most important events is now available in the “Events” section, while the revised “Introduction” section gives users from other fields a good introduction to the topic in general.
