We are pleased to share the recording of the training on “Unlocking Carbon Market Potential for Eastern Africa”, held on 16 April 2025.
The virtual training attracted over 160 participants from across the region, including representatives from environmental ministries, finance agencies, project developers, private sector stakeholders and development partners.
The event was organized by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action, together with Perspectives Climate Group and the Eastern Africa Alliance on Carbon Markets and Climate Finance. It aimed to strengthen awareness, knowledge and engagement in international carbon markets across Eastern Africa.
Key insights were included on:
• Uganda’s new carbon market regulations and authorisation procedures
• The role of carbon markets in financing mitigation beyond NDCs
• Practical explanations of Article 6.2 and 6.4 mechanisms
• Developer perspectives on scaling projects through high-integrity credits
• Q&A addressing common challenges in project registration and national accounting
This session forms part of ongoing efforts to equip both government and private sector actors in Eastern Africa with the knowledge and tools to effectively participate in high-integrity carbon markets.
The session recording can be displayed right here or downloaded in the upper right corner.
