November 2019 - The BMU welcomes the opportunity of the public consultation phase for the Aviation offsetting scheme CORSIA and has therefore commissioned the Öko-Institut e.V., Perspectives Climate Group and Stockholm Environment Institute to analyse the applying programmes for offsetting international flight emissions under CORSIA. The aim of the study was to highlight problems and challenges in meeting the Emission Units Criteria (EUC), which were published on the ICAO website in spring 2019.
The corresponding report synthesizes key lessons learned from the assessment of the first 14 programme applications and evaluates the degree to which the applicants satisfy the ICAO requirements. The evaluation shows that the degree to which the applicants satisfy the ICAO requirements differs substantially. Some applicants hardly meet any of the requirements and may not even be considered carbon-offsetting programs. However, there are also notable differences in relation to specific criteria.
